Robot Autonomy Engineer (Hardware)

LocationIrvine, CA 92614PostedOctober 4, 2026Employment typeFull-time / In person

RobotX Inc. is an AI robotics company dedicated to enable robots to perform a wide range of tasks in both home and industrial settings—addressing challenges like labor shortages, dangerous jobs, and repetitive work. We are expanding fast, delivering next-generation humanoid robots, robotic dogs, and service robots to hotels, restaurants, schools, government agencies, and enterprise clients.

You will be the engineer who turns a crate of hardware into a working autonomous robot. From sensor bring-up and compute integration to on-site calibration, you own the physical side of getting humanoids, robot dogs, and service robots ready for customers.

Our Mission

To enhance human capabilities through advanced artificial intelligence.

Our Vision

To deploy autonomous robots globally and help solve critical challenges in the labor economy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Integrate sensors, compute modules, radios, and power systems onto RobotX platforms and bring new units up from first boot to autonomous operation.
  • Calibrate cameras, LiDAR, IMUs, and joint encoders, and keep calibration tooling repeatable across the fleet.
  • Diagnose faults that cross the hardware/software boundary — thermal throttling, EMI, cabling, firmware — and drive them to root cause.
  • Build bench and field test rigs that catch regressions before robots ship to a customer site.
  • Work with the RX-Brain software team to define hardware interfaces, timing budgets, and failure modes.
  • Support pilot deployments on site when a hardware issue needs hands-on attention.

Ideal Candidate

  • B.S. or M.S. in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 2+ years integrating sensors and compute on mobile robots, drones, or autonomous vehicles.
  • Comfortable with Linux, Python, C++, and ROS 2 for bring-up, logging, and diagnostics.
  • Fluent with oscilloscopes, multimeters, and reading schematics; not afraid of a soldering iron.
  • Methodical about documentation — wiring diagrams, test procedures, and bring-up checklists.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with legged or humanoid platforms, or with multi-robot fleets in the field.
  • Familiarity with CAN, EtherCAT, or similar real-time buses and motor controllers.
  • Prior work in environments where robots had to pass customer acceptance tests.

Compensation

  • Competitive base salary
  • Performance bonuses
  • Opportunities for rapid promotion as the company scales

Why Join Us

  • Work in one of the fastest-growing industries in the U.S.
  • Ship robots that run in real hotels, factories, campuses, and job sites — not just in a lab.
  • Be part of a forward-thinking team scaling nationwide robot deployments.
